In this third volume of his collected plays, Alan Ayckbourn takes his signature acerbic wit into the territory of the lonely and isolated, focusing on everyone from the fantastically famous to the lowliest of Eleanor Rigbys. Collected here are Haunting Julia, Sugar Daddies, Drowning on Dry Land, and the universally acclaimed Private Fears in Public Places, described by Newsday's Linda Winer as "an exquisitely modulated chamber sextet about the unpredictable depths and overlapping absurdities of middleage melancholy."

Bright, clever, melancholic
By Jorge Arias
Fine and clever, sometines bright, as Ayckbourn's; covering a wide range of interests. So "Haunting Julia" deals with a reasonable but disturbing way of life after death, "Private fears..." with the ability of men and women for iblocking their own path to happiness, "Sugar daddies" with the mystery of our decisions, possibly foolish, "Drowning on dry land", the most funny, plays a melancholic note on the general frustration of private life, devoured by the media and the strange ways of ours destinies.
