Denny F. Strigl, former president and CEO of Verizon Wireless, spent four decades in the telecommunications industry. He serves on the board of directors of the Eastman Kodak Company, PNC Financial Services and PNC Bank, and Anadigics, Inc.
Frank Swiatek is a performance consultant and speaker who has had more than 3,400 speaking engagements and seminars and has worked for more than 25 Fortune 500 companies, including Verizon Wireless.

Current managers will benefit from measuring their practice by the standards Strigl and Swiatek endorse. And those who are managed will understand more fully why their managers do what they do.
The format will appeal to every reader. Each chapter ends with a summary, call to action, and an opportunity to evaluate your managerial behavior with the concepts explained in the chapter. You'll welcome the clear writing style as well.
Happily, the results-driven management approach, the authors assert, leaves room for managers to respect employees, correct them tactfully, and empower them to strengthen their performance.
Possibly the most valuable sections are those that describe what the capable manager's day will look like, and the primary thoughts leading managers embrace.

Writing with performance consultant Frank Swiatek, Strigl offers straight-shooting advice for managers and those who aspire to the role. The authors lay out exactly what's required of you every day to become a great manager. They present no sweeping concepts or grand theories, and little here will surprise you. This was quite the book! I never would have purchased this book on my own if it wasn't required reading from my company. I would say it's a fast read, and although there are many things that are common sense, there is also a little something that everyone can learn!
