Machado De Assis

The Alienist. A nice, funny satire on insanity. Questions the values and systems of the new psychiatrist or psychologist of the time in Brazil in the 1890's. This isn't a medical or realist story, just a critique of the baselessness of psychiatry and it shows just how "dangerous" it can become. I found it to be wry, humorous, and amusing. Machado De Assis reminds me a bit of Miguel de Cervantes.
