As a CFO working in a crown corporation with a broad customer base, over 1,000 employees and annual revenues of over $1 billion, I have found this book to be a very helpful resource to support the change management efforts within our workplace.

Clearly well researched, it is a good read that has many timely examples of challenges faced in todays business environment. Its clear structure and layout do indeed make it a valuable tool in the toolkit as once you have read through it, it is easy to refer back to the chapters in the book that speak to the particular stage that you are at in any change management situation.

The book is written in a logical way, with each chapter connected to the change management process using a clear diagram. This layout encourages students to engage in reading the book, because they can easily see the relevance of each chapter to the course topic...Given the importance of managing change at multiple levels, the authors have provided a wonderful reference and text for students to use and engage in. I have run a consulting organization focused on change for 25 years and have never been able to find a book I could recommend to my clients, who are practical people. This text filled that gap. About the Author

Tupper Cawsey is Professor Emeritus of Business, Wilfrid Laurier University. He is presently Editor, Case Research Journal, for the North American Case Research Association. He has served on several boards of directors and was Chair, Lutherwood Board from 2003 - 2008. Tupper was recognized nationally in 2001 as one of Canada’s top five business professors by receiving the Leaders in Management Education award, sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Post. He is also the 1994 recipient of the David Bradford Educator Award, presented by the Organizational Behaviour Teaching Society, and the 1990 Wilfrid Laurier University "Outstanding Teacher Award".

Tupper created the Case Track for the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada, a peer review process for cases. He is author or coauthor of over 6 books and monographs including, Toolkit for Organizational Change – 1st Edition, Canadian Cases in Human Resource Management, Cases in Organizational Behaviour and several monographs including Control Systems in Excellent Canadian Companies and the Career Management Guide. Tupper has over 50 refereed journal and conference publications. In 2005, he received the Christiansen Award from the Kaufman Foundation and the North American Case Research Association and in 2007.his case, “Board Games at Lutherwood” won the Directors College Corporate Governance Award and the Bronze Case Award at the NACRA Conference. In 2009, his case, “NuComm International” won the Gold Case Award at the NACRA Conference.



Gene Deszca is Professor of Business Administration, a former MBA Director, and is currently the Associate MBA Director in the School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University. He has held a number of leadership roles at Laurier, including ones involving the development and launch of the full-time, one year MBA program, the executive MBA program, and the international concentration. He was instrumental in the development of the Society of Management Accountants of Canada's post-university professional accreditation programs and is a member of their national Board of Directors.

Gene is the author or coauthor over 100 journal, conference publications/presentations, books, monographs, and technical papers. These include the books Canadian Cases in Human Resource Management, and Cases in Organizational Behaviour and the articles Driving Loyalty Through Time-to-Value, and Managing the New Product Development Process: Best-in-Class Principles and Leading Practices. His current research and consulting activity focuses on organizational change and the development of high performance enterprises.



Cynthia Ingols is an Associate Professor, School of Management (SOM), Simmons College, Boston. At the SOM, she directs the internship program for undergraduate and MBA students, and teaches courses in Organizational Change and Career Strategies to MBA students. Ingols leads Strategic Leadership for Women, an executive education program with a global reach that strengths the leadership skills and self-confidence of its participants. Early in her career, she received her doctorate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in Organization Behavior and taught Management Communication at the Harvard Business School.

Cynthia focuses her consulting work in three areas: conducting diagnostic work to promote change in organizations; developing interactive executive education programs, particularly using cases and simulations; and, coaching executives to enhance their leadership capacity and careers. Ingols’ research and publications follow similar lines. Her research on executive education programs has been published in leading journals, such as Harvard Business Review, Organizational Dynamics, and Training. Her research work on creating innovative organizational structures and change was published in the Design Management Journal. She has published numerous articles about careers in journals such as the Journal of Career Development and Human Resource Development Quarterly. She co-authored two books on career management: Take Charge of Your Career (2005), and A Smart, Easy Guide to Interviewing (2003).

About the Author
CLAYTON M. CHRISTENSEN is the Kim B. Clark Professor at Harvard Business School, the author of eleven books, a five-time recipient of the McKinsey Award for Harvard Business Review's best article, and the cofounder of four companies, including the innovation consulting firm Innosight. In 2011 he was named the world's most influential business thinker in a biennial ranking conducted by Thinkers50.

TADDY HALL is a Principal with The Cambridge Group and Leader of Nielsen's Breakthrough Innovation Project.  As such, he helps senior executives create successful new products and improve innovation processes.  He also works extensively with executives in emerging markets as an advisor to the non-profit, Endeavor.

KAREN DILLON is the former editor of the Harvard Business Review and co-author of New York Times best-seller How Will You Measure Your Life and The HBR Guide to Office Politics. A graduate of Cornell University and Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, she was named by Ashoka as one of the world's most influential and inspiring women.

Great overview of jobs to be done theory. A bunch of specific examples of JTBD in action. Excellent introduction to the concept, but would highly recommend listening to a JTBD interview to "get it".

This book is a must read for anyone who leads an organization of ANY TYPE- social sector, business or otherwise

This book is a must read for anyone who leads an organization of ANY TYPE. Understanding your organization's unique value or contribution has, for a long time, felt like nebulous and elusive. This book dispels the myth and offers practical advice on how to really understand the job that people who rely on your service or product are in search of (and not what they say that want, but what their behaviors and context suggest is actually at play). The curtain is pulled back through practical, plain speak advice and cross-sector case studies from education to engineering to toy manufacturing. As a leader in education, I am thinking in completely different ways as a result of having been introduced to this theory and the methodology behind it. Imagine a world where principals and teachers had a robust understanding of what job parents were really hiring a "school" to do? Now imagine a school that could be designed to meet that job perfectly while also moving kids along into the 21st century? The application of this theory are endless. Thank you for writing this book and offering such tactical, practical advice!

This book does a great job at adding to my knowledge of the theory ...

I've been a student of jobs to be done for many years. This book does a great job at adding to my knowledge of the theory but also makes the theory very understandable to first timers. The examples from Bob Moesta are excellent as are the other examples in the book.

The explanation of theory building at the end, while short, is very helpful to those that are skeptical that science can be applied to innovation.

I read the whole book on my iPhone and Mac Kindle readers, sync'ing along the way. The best part is that all the highlighting I did is available on the Amazon website so I can copy and past all my highlights into a Google doc for easy, long term access to my highlights of key passages.

A Great Undergraduate-Level Intro to an Important Field in Economics

This book fulfills a much-needed role as a modern undergraduate-level textbook style treatment of institutional economics. (Unfortunately, there is not much teaching of this subject at the undergraduate level - so I hope this book will encourage more courses of the sort.) What I like most about this book is its contrast between "new institutional economics" (in the style of Coase and Williamson) and what the authors call "original institutional economics" (in the style Veblen and Commons). The book is divided into four parts where the first part discusses what institutional economics is, the second part details its theoretical approach, and the last two parts describe private and public governance structures from an institutionalist point of view. I am particularly fond of the parts of the book covering the theoretical approach of institutional economics and the many examples provided in the text. Overall, a great read and well worth the money!

About the Author

Stephen G. Tibbetts, currently a Professor at California State University, San Bernardino, has been pursuing an understanding of criminal offending for over the past two decades. He has attempted to discover the extent to which individuals’ inherent dispositions and attitudinal traits contribute to their offending decisions, especially in relation to other factors, such as demographic, developmental, and situational factors. Dr. Tibbetts’ research has included work on the differences between men and women in their decisions to commit deviant behavior, as well as their perceptions of risk and consequences of getting caught. His additional research interests include the effects of perinatal disorders as an influence in future criminality, the etiology of white-collar crime, and gang intervention.  Dr. Tibbetts has published nine books and more than 50 scholarly papers examining various issues in criminology. He received the 2011 Outstanding Professor Award at CSU, San Bernardino. He previously worked extensively as an Officer of the Court in providing recommendations for dispositions of numerous juvenile court cases from 1997 to 2008.

When you are working and constantly learning in a field of study (psychologies), and concurrently struggling your way through issues within your personal life, love life, and your tribe, is it really possible to have the answers miraculously appear to you? Not Likely!
For for this lucky man, the "nugget for which I had been unknowingly searching" appeared finally before me after some bullying and cajoling by a persistent and good masseuse friend! Thank you Ally!
This was my experience with this book and Dr. Annette Cargioli's Emotional Polarity Technique. After training in, and studying Rieki 1 & 2, Hypnotic Regressions, Holographic Repatterning, Relationships, Chakras and Chakra Balancing, Chinese Meridians, various forms of body work, massage, reflexology, a myriad of healing modalities, and some other "difficult to navigate" methods for nearly 5 years, in one single seminar with Dr. Annette, I saw the clarity, ease of application, the relief which was immediate, and I became a believer.
Almost 14 years later I am still actively a believer for all the amazing changes I have seen in peoples life's in such an immediate way.
This is a technology that like Transactional Analysis, has the goal of 'curing" the clients, not just "understanding" them with endless conversations, like so many other "talking therapies!" (Yet I believe all therapies have value). For that reason, patient management is minimalized and referrals are increased, better yet, satisfaction is off the charts.
This book is written in an anecdotal and simple form for both the novice seeking help and understanding, and as a guide to assist working or aspiring new practitioners.
This is a truly amazing author and lady, whose purpose (as you can see) is NOT about simply making money, but sharing a wealth of information and healing technology to any who will open to listen and learn, and maybe even the birth of a meme!
I personally know of families that have broken through financial distress issues to success, children who went from average students to top few % of their classes after minor work, couples facing break-ups and divorces that remain today happily together and these successes are with less than 3 sessions and often less. I have seen chronic pain gone in a single session, and even diseases disappear with a balanced approach! Many things I never would have thought possible have materialized to reality.
The accuracy with which this technology allows a practitioner to find the "Original conditioning event" or "root of the issue" has the accuracy of William Tell's archery arrow!
Read, it, try it, and invite beneficial changes into your life by experiencing it, or become part of a soon-to-be worldwide movement to share benefits for betterment.
There IS something much bigger in understanding that a practitioner exhibiting unconditional love towards the best outcomes for you, has an exponentially greater effect than trying to tap yourself out of a dither (although at times that can also work). Love and forgiveness are very powerful ingredients to leave on the table with other methods (why would you exclude them?) when they are integral to the Emotional Polarity Process and experience. Be informed, then become experienced!
A quick and easy read, with reference materials that you can initially ignore, but which are there for you as your interests increase and are at your fingertips if you choose to take advantage of that simplicity.
